Tug-Of-War

You may notice that I've filed this picture of Roxy under "People" in my People/Places filing system. It makes sense to me. She certainly has her own personality. Can you imagine her getting, say, interviewed about her life?

Interviewer: Tug-of-war. Is anything better?

Roxy: Nothing that doesn't involve devouring small children.

Gaining Altitude

This is on the way up to Missouri Basin in Collegiate Peaks wilderness in Colorado. I chose this hike because there are lots of 14000+ ft peaks in this wilderness area. Along with all those peaks, though, comes the highest average altitude of any wilderness area in Colorado. It kicked my ass. I'm about 2/3-3/4 of the way from the valley floor up to the alpine lake we were heading for. It was one of those "it has to be just above this hill" situations. It's a good thing, though, because I would have been too intimidated to try if I'd know where we were going.

Treeline

This is heading back down the valley from Missouri Basin in Collegiate Peaks Wilderness in Colorado. I love hikes right at or above the treeline. There's just something about being up there where you can camp in the trees and then hike way above them during the day. Alpine meadows and lakes are also attractions of this ecological zone. :)

Family Christmas

This is a picture from Christmas of Caroline and her Grandma Sheppard. Caroline, like many 1 1/2 year-olds, loves jewelry. It's a way into her heart if she isn't sure of you. And a way to get her to sit in your lap for a bit if she is.

Another Moon Shot

This is Gavin's shot of Tyler lake under the full moon. We walked around about a quarter mile to get this shot. The lighting was actually better right before he took this - just missed it! After this, we decided to keep walking around the lake, as the moonlight was so bright. It was a really nice walk.

Full Moon

There was a full moon when we were out camping this weekend. The clouds and moon were making for good pictures down by the lake after dark. If I was a good photographer, I'd probably have managed to figure out the right settings to get the moon and trees at the appropriate brightness. This was the best I managed, though.

Tyler Lake

We went camping this weekend at Tyler State Park. The first day we hiked the trail around the lake. It's about a two mile loop. The trail by the lake never goes too far from the campsites, so it is pretty well-populated. It's a really nice walk, though.

Sunset Over MCC

Gavin snapped this shot of the sunset over the Mission Control Center in December. There were a ton of great sunsets last month. We were glad we got this one when we did, because the color was gone a few minutes later.

Christmas Baby

Caroline got this very, very cute (and rather impractical) shawl and muff from her Grandma Weiss. She was very cute in her Santa dress and "fur" shawl. And check out the tiny fur-lined boots.
