Lord of the Dorks

I was looking for something "Halloweeny" to post today. That's me in the Ringwraith costume. This isn't from Halloween, although that's what I originially made the costume for. It's from the Lord of the Rings exhibit opening at the Houston Museum of Natural Science last summer. Yes, I dressed up - fine, I'm a dork. The pictures from this night are terrible. Both Cari and I forgot our cameras, and apparently nobody can remember to press the little button on the disposables to turn on the flash. Still, I like this one. Cari looks like she thinks I might just stab her with my plastic sword.

World Series

Jason and I went down into the lower level of Minute Maid park during batting practice before game 4 of the 2005 World Series. Just seeing the scoreboard/diamondvision with the words "World Series" splashed across them was a thrill. I have a few more pictures to post from the games. However, to see REALLY good pictures from this event, go to one of Sarah's sites.

Minute Maid Roof

The roof of Minute Maid Park, looking down the 3rd base line. I took this when I was still in a good mood and we were still winning Game 5 of the NLCS. It's all good - we're in the Big Dance anyhow.

Slot Canyon

When we went to Santa Fe in 2004 for a wedding, we stopped at Tent Rocks National Monument on our way back to Albuquerque to catch our plane. You can hike to the top of the sandstone formation through a series of slot canyons. It was a really neat hike, but even though it was 11AM without a cloud in the sky, I found myself nervously listening for thunder. It would really suck to get stuck in here during a flash flood!

Sunset on Mauna Kea

Sunset atop Mauna Kea. At 13796 ft above sea level, it is cold even though we are in Hawaii. 13 observatories cluster around the top of the mountain, as the sunset slowly yields to darkness. Then the night's work will begin.

NLCS Baby

Why should you care about this crappy photo from my camera phone of a bunch of pieces of colored paper on the floor of Minute Maid Park? Because those pieces of paper mean that the Astros are going to the 2005 NLCS, and I was there to celebrate. That's right. 6 hours. 18 innings. One swing to win it all. Baseball rules.

Fall

This is in tribute of the wonderful fall weather we FINALLY got today. This picture was taken two years ago when we went to Santa Fe for Gavin's cousin's wedding. Gavin took this picture of the aspens changing color up at the ski resort. My parents told me the aspens in Wyoming were changing colors two weeks ago. Oh well, whoohoo for temps under 80 deg!

Double-Fisting

My friend Sarah is really into photography. On our recent trip to Seattle, she and our other friend Irwin were trading lenses back and forth. I had to capture the goofy grin on her face when she was double-fisting big lenses.
