Campfire

Gavin took this of me on our camping trip to Lost Maples in February. I thought it came out very well. It was pretty wet out that night. It was never really raining, but it was misting and foggy. This made star gazing a bit tough, but there were a couple times when it cleared up a bit. Gavin took this in one of those times. The dogs thought he was going nuts lying on the ground like that.

Tetons at Sunset

Gavin is the author of this one. It's from our Christmas vacation in 2003 - we were on Towgatee Pass, Wyoming. We're looking at The Cathedral in the Teton mountain range. It was very cloudy most of the time we were there, so this picture was a moment of opportunity. This is on the same trip as the snowmobiling picture I posted a couple weeks ago. The Tetons are my favorite mountain range in the world. This may be mostly due to nostalgia since it's in my home state, but I really like the spiky peak look they have. It's like a long row of teeth dividing Wyoming from Utah. Sometime I'm going to have to get my pictures of Amphitheater Lake and scan them - they were some of the prettiest pictures I've ever taken and they were pre-digital.

Collegiate Peaks Wilderness

This is what I want to be doing right now. I can always tell when it's been too long since I headed back into the mountains, because pictures like this on my screensaver spark longing emotions that can't be ignored. I'm turning into a wilderness junkie. This picture is from our packing trip in Collegiate Peaks Wilderness, CO in August 2003. I love nothing better than getting up above the treeline and walking for miles along alpine meadows and ridges where you can see for miles. Is it summer yet?

Machu Picchu - A Different View

This is one of my favorite images of Machu Picchu. it gives you a better sense of the topography of the site than any of the others we took. This is taken from the area of the ruins thought to house the working class residents. Looking back at the terraces gives you a pretty good feel for how steep the hills are that the site is built on. This picture is much more impressive in full screen, so click on the image above for the large version.

Santa Fe Aspen in Fall

In October of 2003, we went to Santa Fe, NM for Gavin's cousin's wedding. It was a perfect time to see the aspen trees up by the Santa Fe ski area. Gavin took some great shots while I was at the flea market with his sister and mother. We went hiking nearby where this was taken the next day. I really like forrested areas when there's a lot of contrasting color in the trees. This is an extreme example, but I also really like forrests in spring when the trees start budding out and there are lots of different shades of green in the foliage.

On another note, this blog should be updated more regularly now that I have time to breathe again. :)

Dressed Up in Nashville

I tried to get a picture of us in one of the atriums in the Opryland hotel in Nashville. This one has no background, and the other one has us washed out. So, I chose the one to post that makes me look pretty. :)
